Little Things

"Wow, Youngblood, what a beautiful bracelet!"

"Yes, it is beautiful, isn't it?", I say, looking at the dainty decoration I wear on my left wrist. "Just as beautiful as the lady who made it for me."

"Someone *made* that for you?" Missy is incredulous.

"Yes, someone did. A very special someone, as a matter of fact. A very dear friend whom I've never met."

She touches the tiny black beads with her finger.

"It's so dainty, so delicate," she muses. "And so perfect for you. The tiny black beads, the moon and star. And oh my goodness, look at this, Youngblood! Look how she uses all black beads except here where she places one tiny blue bead on either side of the blue stone, and one tiny red bead on either side of the red stone. And the star is hematite! Youngblood, the star is hematite!"

She is so excited I can't help but giggle. "I know, sweetie, isn't that cool?"

"It is so cool I can't even *tell* you how cool it is!", she exclaims.

"Well, she's a pretty cool lady," I say, by way of explanation.

"But you don't know this person? You don't know this person but she has made this beautiful bracelet for you? It looks like it was custom made just for your wrist!"

"I didn't say I didn't know her. I said I've never met her. I think I know her fairly well. I know that she's kind and loving and thoughtful. I know that she's creative and imaginative. I know she's a free spirit who likes the wind in her hair and the feel of the Earth beneath her feet. She likes exploration and adventure, whether of the body, the mind, or the soul. And she has a different perspective, one of reverence, insight and humor. I wear this little bracelet all the time. I never take it off because it reminds me of her and inspires me to be like her when I grow up."

"You are so lucky," Missy says. "Where do you find all these great people?"

"In the Spoon, of course. In that little cyber cafe just off the information highway, off Moore's Creek Road out 45 toward Bean Blossom."
