Or filled with scrambled eggs, bits of ham and finely chopped hot peppers. Or...cheesed up for quesidillas. Or.....you name it, I just love the things. I have never made them myself because our grocery store, HEB, makes them right before our hungry eyes and drooling lips and packages them warm. I eat them in the car on the way home!

Make pasties and tell us about them, Dee. Please.

AvaAvawww.xanga.com/avajsouthnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-399953666507652031.post-8890450728487276082007-07-20T00:27:00.000-07:002007-07-20T00:27:00.000-07:00John, I couldn't possibly think of you as ignorant...John, I couldn't possibly think of you as ignorant! Although I must point out that the humble tortilla is simply a flat bread that exists in pretty much the same form in cultures all over the world. The beauty of it is, you can wrap it around any kind of filling you want -- even peanut butter and jelly -- or use it as an edible scoop when eating a hearty stew -- or, when it gets old, fling it at the dog as an edible frisbee.

But pasties! Thank you for reminding me. I learned to make pasties when we were stationed with the Air Force in Upper Michigan, in the copper mining country. Pasties are part of a rich tradition there and, you're right -- homemade is infinitely superior. Do show us pictures when you make yours!Deehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00640058997702227911noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-399953666507652031.post-77513232339426201862007-07-19T23:05:00.000-07:002007-07-19T23:05:00.000-07:00I was scratching my head for something--anything--...I was scratching my head for something--anything--similar in my kitchen reportoire to tortillas. There's crepes, of course, but ... ah! ... the Cornish Pastie! Haven't made 'em myself for years because they're so easy to buy in the market but the boughten ones are a pale imitation. I shall have to find my pastry board and get a'rolling. Sorry, Dee, you still haven't tempted me away from my dislike of chilli/salsa flavoured food... just call me an ignorant Brit! :-)John Baileyhttp://oldgreypoet.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.com
